Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon Join Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Nocturnal Animals’

Stars of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Man of Steel’ trade their powers for roles in Tom Ford’s latest movie

After starring in the comic book movies “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Man of Steel,” Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Michael Shannon are trading in their superpowers for roles in Tom Ford’s “Nocturnal Animals,” TheWrap has learned.

The film reunites Shannon with his “Man of Steel” co-star Amy Adams, who stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

The dual storyline follows Gyllenhaal on a violent family vacation and Adams as a woman who receives a unique manuscript from her longtime ex-husband.

Taylor-Johnson will play a threat to Gyllenhaal’s family, while Shannon will play a detective assigned to investigate the aftermath.

Ford wrote the script, which is based on Austin Wright’s 1993 novel “Tony And Susan.” He’s also producing the film, which serves as his follow-up to his critically acclaimed directorial debut “A Single Man” starring Colin Firth.

Focus Features will handle worldwide distribution after winning a good old-fashioned Cannes bidding war.

Taylor-Johnson (pictured above with wife Sam Taylor Johnson at a Tom Ford fashion event in February) played Quicksilver in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” while Shannon played General Zod in “Man of Steel.”

Taylor-Johnson’s casting was first reported by Variety.
