The Academy has announced the 63 contenders in the Best Song category for the 82nd Oscars show.

Among the films represented by multiple entries are "Hannah Montana the Movie" with five, "The Princess and the Frog" with, and "Nine," "Crazy Heart," "Where the Wild Things Are," "An Education," "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus," "My One and Only," "Skin," "Adventures of Power" and "Invictus" (two each).  Artists include U2 ("Winter"), Jarvis Cocker ("Petey’s Blues"), Linkin Park ("New Divide") and Paul McCartney ("(I Want to) Come Home").

Mary J. Blige’s song "I See in Color," from "Precious," is not included on the list. According to an Academy spokesperson, it was disqualified because its rendition was too short.

Academy rules specify that a song must be written specifically for the film, and must be represented in the film with "a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition (not necessarily visually presented) of both lyric and melody."

Three minute clips of all 63 songs will be shown to members of the Academy’s music branch at a meeting in January, and nominations will go to the top five (or fewer) songs that receive at least an 8.25 score (on a scale of six to 10).  Branch members who watch the clips at home may also vote.
