Accel Partners Buys $40M in Legendary Shares

Venture capitalist Jim Breyer has previously invested in Groupon and Facebook

Venture capital maestro Jim Breyer and his Accel Partners are investing in Legendary Pictures, TheWrap has confirmed.

A Forbes report described it as a $40 million investment, but an individual with knowledge of the deal said that Accel bought stock in the production company from an investor.

It was not part of another round of financing, the individual says. As part of the deal, Breyer will join the company's board.

Legendary has had a series of hit films since it was founded in 2005 by Thomas Tull; among them "The Dark Knight" and "The Town."

Breyer has previously invested in Facebook, Groupon and Wal-Mart.

Other Legendary investors include AIG Direct Investments, Columbia Capital, Falcon Investment Advisors and M/C Venture Partners.
