Ratings: Academy of Country Music Awards Scores Most Viewers in 17 Years

While CBS scores with ACM Awards, NBC’s “A.D” drops again

CBS is singing a happy (country) tune, after its 50th annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday was the most-watched since 1998. As a result, the network easily topped the night in both the key demo and in total viewers — more than doubling its closest competitor by both metrics.

NBC experienced some rough drops from “A.D.” (down 35 percent from last week) and “American Odyssey” (down 25 percent).

CBS was first in ratings with a 3.0 rating/9 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 14.6 million, according to preliminary numbers. At 7, “60 Minutes” got a 1.2/4 and 9.9 million viewers. The ACM Awards at 8 scored a 3.7/11 and 16.2 million viewers — both primetime bests.

ABC was second in ratings with a 1.4/4 — up 27 percent from last week — and in viewers with 5.1 million. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 had a 1.4/5 and 6.4 million viewers. “Once Upon a Time” at 8 received a 1.6/5 and 5.1 million viewers. “Secrets & Lies” posted a 1.4/4 and 5 million viewers. “Revenge” at 10 got a 1.0/3 and 3.9 million viewers.

Fox was third in ratings with a 1.1/3 and fourth in viewers with 2.6 million. Between reruns, “The Simpsons” at 8 had a 1.4/4 and 3.2 million viewers. “Family Guy” at 9 received a 1.7/5 and 3.3 million viewers. “The Last Man on Earth” got a 1.4/4 and 3.4 million viewers.

NBC was fourth in ratings with a 0.8/2 and third in viewers with 4.5 million. At 7, “Dateline” posted a 0.8/3 and 4.4 million viewers. Following a repeat, “A.D.: The Bible Continues” at 9 dropped to a 1.1/3 and 6.3 million viewers. “American Odyssey” at 10 fell to a 0.6/2 and 3.3 million viewers.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.7/2 and in viewers with 2 million.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in viewers with 1.7 million.
