Adam Levine is a rising rock star who dumps his loyal girlfriend, which may lead to her own music career in the first trailer for “Begin Again.”

The preview (above) introduces Mark Ruffalo as an alcoholic record executive who gets booted from his company, and Keira Knightley as a recently-dumped singer-songwriter who begin working together — and maybe falling in love — after he hears her perform a break-up song at an open mic in New York City.

The rom-com from the director of 2006 indie hit “Once” asks the question, “Can a song save your life?”

The question probably would have intrigued audiences more when it served as the title, but the Weinstein Company — which spent $7 million on the indie at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall — decided earlier this month that “Begin Again” was more appropriate.

Director John Carney‘s ’80s-set movie will be the closing night picture at the Tribeca Film Festival, and hits theaters on July 4.

Levine’s “Voice” pal CeeLo Green has a role, along with Oscar-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld.
