Oscar winner Adrien Brody will be joining the cast of “Peaky Blinders” Season 4, TheWrap has learned.

It’s unclear what character he’ll play, as it’s currently being kept under wraps, but creator Steven Knight said he’s going to be a “formidable presence.”

“He genuinely was the actor in my head when I wrote the part. I’m sure he will be a formidable presence in the world of the ‘Peaky Blinders,'” he said in a statement Thursday.

“Adrien Brody is a world class actor famous for producing mesmerising performances. I cannot wait to see him in action,” Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, added.

The Peaky Blinders were a criminal gang based in Birmingham, England, during the 19th and 20th centuries. The show follows Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his family as they rise to prominence after World War I in the criminal underworld.

Season 3 followed the gang as they rose too quickly, putting them at risk of destruction. Season 4 picks up where the last season left off, as Shelby receives a letter on Christmas Eve.

According to a statement from BBC Two, “As the enemy closes in, Shelby flees his country house and returns to the streets of Small Heath, Birmingham where a desperate fight for survival begins.”

The show begins filming in Liverpool this week, with most of the main cast returning. Murphy will once again star, along with Tom Hardy as Jewish gang leader Alfie Solomons.

Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Joe Cole, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kate Phillips, Natasha O’Keefe and Packy Lee are also all returning.

The fourth season will be directed by David Caffrey and produced by Joe Donaldson.

The show has already been picked up for a fifth season. Season 4 is expected to air later in 2017, but it doesn’t have a release date.

“Peaky Blinders” airs on BBC Two and Netflix.
