AFI Fest 2012 Set for Nov. 1-8

The American Film Institute has locked this year’s AFI Fest for Nov. 1-8 in Hollywood

AFI Fest 2012 will get underway Nov. 1 for a week-long celebration of film in Hollywood.

The American Film Institute's annual festival will mix red-carpet galas of Hollywood films and offerings from around the globe.

Events will take place Nov. 1-8 at Grauman's Chinese Theater and nearby Chinese 6 Theaters at the Hollywood & Highland Center, the Egyptian Theater of the American Cinematheque and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Last year’s festival featured eventual Oscar winners “The Artist” and “A Separation,” in addition to "Shame," "The Adventures of Tintin" and "Melancholia." It also showcased works by Werner Herzog, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Hong Sang-soo, Jafar Panahi and Wim Wenders.

The festival began in 1987 and in recent years has been sponsored by Audi.

Submission deadline for this year’s festival is July 27 for short films and Aug. 10 for feature length films. AFI Fest is a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards in the short films category.
