Ratings: ‘America’s Got Talent’ Scores Biggest Season Finale in 5 Years

NBC summer competition crowns a champ, soars 29 percent above 2015

Now THAT’S how you end a summer.

“America’s Got Talent” soared 29 percent year over year last night with its season finale, reaching its top marks for a run’s ending episode in five years. Not surprisingly, NBC crushed its broadcast competition on the evening, as “AGT” offered a strong lead-in for “Blindspot” sampling.

Fox finished second in the key 18-49 demographic, thanks to its “MasterChef” season finale. CBS managed to edge that network in total viewers, however.

NBC was first in ratings with a 2.3 rating/9 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 11.9 million, according to preliminary numbers. “America’s Got Talent” at 8 p.m. ET scored a 2.7/10 and 14.1 million viewers. “Blindspot” at 10 earned a 1.6/6 and 7.3 million viewers.

Fox was second in ratings with a 1.4/5 and third in viewers with 4.3 million. A two-hour “MasterChef” was the only show on the net’s schedule.

CBS was third in ratings with a 1.0/4 and second in viewers with 4.4 million. “Big Brother” at 8 p.m. ET posted a 1.7/7 and 6 million viewers. Reruns followed.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.8/3 and in viewers with 2.7 million, running all repeats.

Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.7/3 and in viewers with 1.8 million.

Univision was sixth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and in viewers with 1.5 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.4/1 and in viewers with 1.2 million. “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” at 8 p.m. ET received a 0.4/2 and 1.4 million viewers. “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” at 9 got a 0.3/1 and 1.1 million viewers. A rerun followed.
