“The Kominsky Method” will be without one of its co-stars for its third and final season, as Alan Arkin won’t be returning, an individual with knowledge of the decision told TheWrap.

Arkin played Norman Newlander on the Netflix comedy from Chuck Lorre. Newlander was the friend and agent of Michael Douglas’ Sandy Kominsky during the first two seasons.

Arkin’s departure was made some time ago, the individual added. It will be addressed in the third season.

The half-hour single-camera comedy is created by Lorre, an eight-time Emmy nominee and creator of “The Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men.” The series, which debuted in 2018, won a Golden Globe for Best Television Comedy Series in 2019. The same year, Douglas also won a Golden Globe for Best Television Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series for his starring role.

“The Kominsky Method” cast also includes Sarah Baker, Nancy Travis, Graham Rogers, Melissa Tang, and Emily Osment, among others.

“The Kominsky Method” becomes the second Chuck Lorre-produced sitcom to lose one of its co-stars. Earlier this month, CBS announced “Mom” star Anna Faris would be leaving the show ahead of its eighth season.

Deadline first reported on Arkin’s exit.
