Cinemax has renewed “Banshee” for a fourth season. It will return next year with eight new episodes.

Produced by “True Blood” co-creator Alan Ball, the drama series is currently airing its third season. Although Cinemax said it will confirm returning cast members and producers at a later date, Season 3 stars Ivana Milicevic, Ulrich Thomsen, Frankie Faison and Hoon Lee.

“Banshee” follows Antony Starr as as a mysterious ex-convict who assumed the identity of Lucas Hood, a small Amish country town sheriff who’s murdered. Quickly, he discovers that this town is full of dangers, warring factions and, like him, secrets.

In Sept. 2013, the show won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects.

Created by Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler, Ball executive produces alongside Greg Yaitanes, Jonathan Tropper and Peter Macdissi. Robert F. Phillips serves as a producer.

Banshee’s third season currently airs Fridays at 10 p.m. on Cinemax.
