Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reached a new milestone on Friday, surpassing Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Twitter followers.

As of Friday afternoon Eastern time, Ocasio-Cortez had approximately 1.87 million followers and growing, edging pasted Pelosi with 1.85 million. As Speaker of the House, Pelosi is the most powerful woman in the United States and second in line to the presidency following Vice President Mike Pence. She has been a fixture in politics for decades.

The news was first spotted by Bloomberg reporter Steven Dennis, which he fittingly pointed out in a tweet.

The milestone was another metric showing the unique power and voice the New York congresswoman brings to Washington. Burns, owns and jokes from Ocasio-Cortez on the platform routinely go viral. Attempts to smear her — like by making fun of her clothes or her childhood home — have generally backfired.

Ocasio-Cortez’s army of followers makes AOC (as she is commonly known) an imposing adversary on the platform for all but the largest accounts. Her reach on Twitter — replete with journalists, looking for content — has made her one of the most written about members in Congress. An interview with “60 Minutes” has already been taped and will air Sunday evening.

Ocasio-Cortez — who has suggested raising taxes up to 70 percent on top earners — has also won over those in Hollywood, who celebrated with her Thursday when Democrats retook the House of Representatives.

“That’s it, Alexandria you’re in the club!” “Breakfast Club” veteran Molly Ringwald said in a tweet, after video went viral this week of a high school age Ocasio-Cortez performing moves from the iconic film. Fellow “Breakfast” veteran Ally Sheedy agreed.

“I LOVE THIS #TeamAOC,” she said.
