Alison Thompson, Mark Gooder Form Cornerstone Films

Former Focus Features and Weinstein Company execs partner on new production-finance and sales company with offices in London and Los Angeles

Film executives Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder are partnering to form Cornerstone Films, a new production-finance and sales company with offices in London and Los Angeles, the company announced Tuesday.

Cornerstone will focus on building long-term relationships with global producing partners and will collaborate closely with Potboiler Films and X Filme — with both production companies providing up to two films a year for financing and sales through the new company.

The company will be unveiling a slate in Cannes, led by Mick Jackson’s “Denial,” starring Hilary Swank and Tom Wilkinson, announced Monday. The film is based on Deborah E. Lipstadt’s book “History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier” and adapted for the screen by David Hare.

Thompson, most recently a co-president of Focus Features International, will fold her existing Sunray slate into Cornerstone Films, bringing over Asif Kapadia’s Amy Winehouse documentary “Amy” and Vincent Perez’s “Alone in Berlin” starring Emma Thompson, Daniel Brühl and Brendan Gleeson.

Gooder was most recently President of Acquisitions at The Weinstein Company.
