‘Jack Ryan’ Teaser: John Krasinski Reboots Tom Clancy Superspy in Amazon Series (Video)

Drama takes place during the iconic character’s early years

Never thought we’d see mild-mannered Jim Halpert threatening two men with bags over their heads, but here we are.

Amazon released a first look at “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” its upcoming eight-episode drama starring John Krasinski as the CIA mastermind featured in dozens of Clancy’s best-selling novels, including “The Hunt for Red October” and “Patriot Games.”

The third attempt to reboot the franchise, “Jack Ryan” takes place in Ryan’s early years, where he’s an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into the field for the first time. See a glimpse of that in the clip above, which shows two men in a Middle Eastern locale being tazed and kidnapped, only to awake in a dark room across a table from a very playing-against-type Krasinski, who tells them in a gravelly voice “we know who you are.”

“Jack Ryan” marks the first time Krasinski has starred in a series since his long-running sitcom “The Office” went off the air in 2013.

The series also stars Wendell Pierce (“The Wire”) and Abbie Cornish (“Limitless”), with Timothy Hutton in a recurring guest role as Singer, the Central Intelligence Agency’s deputy director of Operations.

Carlton Cuse (“Bates Motel”) is executive producing and showrunning the Paramount TV and Skydance TV production. Krasinski, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Graham Roland (“Almost Human”) are also executive producing. Roland also write the pilot based on a story he and Cuse developed. Morten Tyldum directed the pilot and is also executive producing.

For a more in-depth look, New York Comic Con attendees this weekend will have the chance to see the cast live in person, along with the first teaser trailer.

The eight episode season will debut in 2018.
