Amazon will not be bringing back “Romanoffs” or “The Patriot,” the studio’s executives said Saturday during Amazon’s executive session Saturday at the Television Critics Association press tour.
Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke confirmed that both “The Romanoffs,” Matthew Weiner’s first TV series since AMC’s “Mad Men,” and Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Too Old to Die Young” are over at one season each.
Albert Cheng, co-head of television for Amazon Studios, added that spy drama “The Patriot” will not return for a third season.
“The Romanoffs” was an anthology series set around the globe, featuring eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family. It featured “Mad Men” alums Jay R. Ferguson, Christina Hendricks, Cara Buono and John Slattery, along with Amanda Peet, Corey Stoll and Aaron Eckhart.
“Too Old to Die Young” was written by Refn and Ed Brubaker. It starred Miles Teller as a grieving police officer who, along with the man who shot his partner, finds himself in an underworld filled with working-class hit men, Yakuza soldiers, cartel assassins sent from Mexico, Russian mafia captains and gangs of teenage killers. Augusto Aguilera, Cristina Rodlo and Nell Tiger Free also starred in the series.
