‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ Opening Credits Are a Stop-Motion Nightmare (Video)

Ryan Murphy’s FX drama will start off each episode with a sequence to keep you up at night

Are you wearing clean underwear?

Well, you might want to take them off — because the following minute or so of video could very well change that.

The opening credits for Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s FX drama “American Horror Story: Freak Show” hit the internet Wednesday, and it appears that the show has outdone itself with creepy opening sequences (which is no easy feat).

The sequence weighs in at 1 minute and 11 seconds, but it packs plenty of chills into that time. As ominous music plays, stop-motion images reveal a procession of creatures that make Hieronymus Bosch seem like Walt Disney in comparison.

Bicycle-skeleton hybrid? Check. Decrepit lobster boy? Uh-huh. A doll in menacing clown makeup with a leg growing out of its crotch? You betcha.

Premiering Oct. 8, “American Horror Story: Freak Show” begins in Jupiter, Florid in 1952, where the arrival of a troupe of curiosities coincides with the strange emergence of a dark, threatening entity.

In addition to returning cast members such as Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, the fourth iteration of the anthology series includes newcomers Michael Chiklis, Finn Wittrock and others.
