Ratings: ‘American Idol,’ ‘DWTS’ Finales Carry ABC to Monday Win

The winners of the first season of ABC’s “American Idol” revival and “Dancing With the Stars: Athletes” were crying tears of joy last night and the network is probably shedding a few happy ones this morning over its Monday primetime Nielsen ratings.

The Disney-owned broadcaster won the night in both the key 18-49 demo and total viewers, with NBC coming in second, thanks to “The Voice.”

ABC was first in ratings with a 1.5 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 8.7 million, according to preliminary numbers. At 8 p.m., the season finale of “DWTS: Athletes” had a 1.1/5 and 8.7 million viewers. From 9-11, the Season 1 finale of the “American Idol” revival scored a 1.6/6 and 8.7 million viewers.

NBC was second in ratings with a 1.2/5 and in viewers with 6.8 million. “The Voice” from 8-10 earned a 1.5/6 and 8.6 million viewers. At 10, “Running Wild With Bear Grylls” managed a 0.7/3 and 3.1 million viewers.

CBS was third in ratings with a 0.8/3 and in viewers with 5 million. Following a repeat at 8, the season finale of “Man With a Plan” at 8:30 received a 1.0/4 and 5.7 million viewers. After more reruns, “Elementary” at 10 settled for a 0.5/2 and 4.2 million viewers.

Fox was fourth in ratings with a 0.6/3 and in viewers with 2.4 million. The network filled its primetime block with its telecast of the Miss USA 2018 pageant.

Univision, Telemundo and The CW tied for fifth in ratings with a 0.4/2.

The CW was fifth in viewers with 1.4 million. A MLB showdown between the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers filled up the channel’s Monday night schedule.

Univision was sixth in viewers with 1.2 million.

Telemundo was seventh in viewers with 1.1 million.
