Ratings: ‘American Idol’ Premiere Tops Sunday Despite Lower Start Than Last Year

NBC’s “Good Girls” return doesn’t do so good

ABC’s second season of “American Idol” started much lower than its first, but the singing competition was still highly rated enough to be Sunday’s top show.

ABC was first in ratings with a 1.4 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 7 million, according to preliminary numbers. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 p.m. had a 1.1/5 and 6.7 million viewers. At 8, “Idol” earned a 1.7/7 and 8.6 million viewers, which was down 26 percent in the demo versus last year and 18 percent in terms of eyeballs. “Shark Tank” at 10 received a 0.9/4 and 4.2 million viewers.

On NBC, the return of “Good Girls” didn’t do so good.

CBS and NBC tied for second in ratings, both with a 0.8/3. CBS was first in total viewers with 7.3 million, NBC was third with 3.5 million.

For CBS, “60 Minutes” at 7 had a 1.0/4 and 10.2 million viewers. “God Friended Me” at 8 got a 0.7/3 and 6.8 million viewers. “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 9 received a 0.9/3 and 6.9 million viewers. At 10, “Madam Secretary” at 10 settled for a 0.6/2 and 5.2 million viewers.

For NBC, following a recap of last week’s episode, a new two-hour “World of Dance” from 8 to 10 averaged a 1.0/4 and 4.2 million viewers. The “Good Girls” season premiere at 10 had a 0.7/3 and 2.8 million viewers.

Fox was fourth in ratings with a 0.7/3 and in viewers with 1.8 million. Following reruns, “The Simpsons” at 8 had a 0.9/4 and 2.3 million viewers. At 8:30, “Bob’s Burgers” got a 0.8/3 and 2 million viewers. “Family Guy” at 9 received a 0.8/3 and 2.1 million viewers.

Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and in viewers with 1.3 million.

Univision and The CW tied for sixth in ratings, both with a 0.3/1. Univision was sixth in total viewers with 1.1 million, The CW was seventh with 954,000.

For CW, “Supergirl” at 8 had a 0.4/2 and 1.2 million viewers. At 9, “Charmed” got a 0.3/1 and 754,000 viewers.
