The American premiere of "Truth in Numbers? Everything, According to Wikipedia" will be streamed online simultaneously with its physical screening as part of DocFest2010 at The Paley Center for Media in New York on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Big Live will host the synchronous streaming of the film and the post-film Q & A with a panel including the filmmakers, and the film will immediately be available for free and on-demand to a worldwide audience for six days via SnagFilms. It is the first time a film has had a synchronous premiere and post-screening panel discussion available to a theater audience and free online.
In the documentary, filmmakers Scott Glosserman and Nic Hill explore the history and cultural implications of the world’s 7th most popular website, which has more than 74 million monthly unique visitors, and more than 90,000 contributors to some 16,000,000 articles published in more than 270 languages.
Participating in the live panel discussion are filmmakers Scott Glosserman and Nic Hill, Samuel Klein of the Wikimedia Foundation, which maintains Wikipedia, and Liam Wyatt, Wikipedian in Residence at the British Museum. The panel will be moderated by Noam Cohen, columnist, Link by Link, The New York Times.
