Ratings: ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’ Ticks Up to Kick Off Primetime

But ABC settles for last place among Big 4 broadcast networks

“America’s Funniest Home Videos” rose one-tenth of a ratings point from last week, according to Sunday’s earliest-available TV ratings. Not that it did much damage: ABC still settled for last place among the Big 4 broadcast networks.

Of course, two of those four had at least some football in primetime. The other one was CBS, which kicked off the important day part with “60 Minutes” and “The Equalizer.”

Due to the nature of live sports, the below early Nielsen numbers for NBC and Fox should be considered subject to significant adjustment.

NBC was first in ratings with a 2.8 in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 9.9 million, according to preliminary numbers. Those were the averages of pregame show “Football Night in America” and the primetime NFL contest itself.

Fox was second in ratings with a 1.6 and in total viewers with 5.8 million, but those numbers are overinflated. Following an NFL overrun and postgame show “The OT,” primetime broke down like this (for now): “The Simpsons” at 8 p.m. put up a 1.1 rating and 3.4 million total viewers; “The Great North” at 8:30 received a 0.6 rating and 1.6 million total viewers; “Bob’s Burgers” at 9 had a 0.5 rating and 1.4 million total viewers; “Family Guy” at 9:30 got a 0.5 rating and 1.5 million total viewers.

CBS was third in ratings with a 0.5 and in total viewers with 5.5 million. At 7, “60 Minutes” posted a 0.6 rating and 7.3 million total viewers. “The Equalizer” at 8 landed a 0.5 rating and 6.4 million total viewers. At 9, “NCIS: Los Angeles” had a 0.5 rating and 5.2 million total viewers. An “NCIS: Hawai’i” special, coded as a repeat, closed out the network’s primetime.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.4 and in total viewers with 3.1 million. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 got a 0.5 rating and 4.2 million total viewers. At 8, “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” had a 0.4 rating and 3.4 million total viewers. “Supermarket Sweep” at 9 received a 0.3 rating and 2 million total viewers. At 10, “The Rookie” finished off primetime with a 0.3 rating and 2.7 million total viewers.

The CW was fifth in ratings with a 0.1 and in total viewers with 353,000. “Legends of the Hidden Temple” at 8 had a 0.1 rating and 263,000 total viewers. Reruns followed.

We do not have early Nielsen numbers for Spanish-language broadcast networks Univision and Telemundo.
