Andie MacDowell Starring in Hallmark Channel’s First Scripted Series

A two-hour movie, "Cedar Cove," will serve as the pilot for the series, adapted from a Debbie Macomber book

Hallmark Channel has announced it is developing its first scripted series, "Cedar Cove," an adaptation of Debbie Macomber's "Cedar Cove" book series that will star Andie MacDowell.

The network will introduce the project as a two-hour movie that will serve as the series pilot. The movie will air late in 2012, the network announced, with the series to debut early in 2013.

MacDowell will star as Judge Olivia Lockhart, whose personal life often carries over into her courtroom. In the first novel in Macomber's series, Lockhart's mother interferes in a divorce case over which she's presiding.

Macomber's novels previously have been adapted for three Hallmark Channel movies. The New York Times bestselling author has sold more than 150 million copies of her books, and the small-town setting of the "Cedar Cove" series is based on Macomber's Washington hometown.

"We are beyond thrilled to have a star of the magnitude of Andie MacDowell to star in 'Cedar Cove,'" Hallmark Channel executive vice president of programming Michelle Vicary said in a statement.

"Andie is widely recognized around the world as a gifted actor and a top box-office draw and there is genuine, mutual excitement today between the network and our star about the future of the new series."

MacDowell also stars in the ABC Family teen drama "Jane by Design."
