Andrew Knight, a director at Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., has been named chairman of Times Newspaper Holdings.
Murdoch resigned as chairman in July before the proposed split of News Corp. into two companies: one based on its Fox entertainment assets and the other on its British, American and Australian publications, according to The Guardian.
Knight, who headed Murdoch’s London publishing operation from 1990 to 1994, will take over the British subsidiary that publishes the "Times" and "Sunday Times" as it reshapes into the two separate entities.

“His experience and insight as a journalist and as an executive will be a huge asset to The Times and The Sunday Times as they face the challenges and seize the opportunities of the future,” Murdoch said of Knight.
The move comes a little more than a year after News Corp. became embroiled in a voicemail-hacking scandal in Britain.
The scandal, which caused Murdoch to close the British tabloid “News of the World," was sparked after reporters were accused of illegally accessing the voicemail accounts of a 13-year-old murder victim, as well as accounts of relatives of deceased soldiers who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.
