Move over, Kathy Griffin. Chelsea Handler proved she isn’t afraid to take on Hollywood’s leading ladies, either, when she hosted Women in Film’s Crystal + Lucy Awards on Friday night. In a move that would surely make Griffin proud, Handler thanked honoree Jennifer Aniston for “increasing the visibility of women in film” and “decreasing the visibility of John Mayer.” Aniston took the teasing in stride and even joked that since her movie titles reflect her real-life drama — “The Breakup,” “Derailed,” “Rumor Has It,” etc. — she has an idea for a project: “Everlasting Love with an Adult, Stable Male!” Not a bad place to pitch an idea. The crowd included Stacey Snider (below left, with Aniston), Diane English, Blythe Danner, Jodie Foster and fellow awardees Elizabeth Banks, Catherine Hardwicke, Holly Hunter and cinematographer Petra Korner …
Also getting lauded: Michael Douglas, who had a whole night devoted solely to him at the 37th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala on Thursday at Sony Pictures Studios. The show kicked off with a stunt double reenacting a scene from “The Game” by falling through a ceiling, and the surprises kept on coming. Among them: Bob Dylan showed up to warble "Things Have Changed," the Oscar-winning ditty from “The Wonder Boys,” and Douglas’ wife Catherine Zeta-Jones worked her top hat like nobody’s business during a performance of “One” from “A Chorus Line” (pictured below). Douglas thanked his parents for his “acting DNA” along with the NBA, for making sure the Lakers had an away game so presenter Jack Nicholson could attend. Rounding out the guest list: Douglas’ former co-stars, Warren Beatty, Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire, Martin Sheen, Benicio Del Toro, Kathleen Turner and Sharon Stone …
On Sunday, Stone dropped by the Rock-n-Reel event, presented by the Pediatric IBD Center at Cedars-Sinai, to honor producer Alexandra Milchan-Lambert and Relativity Media’s Scott Lambert, and made it home in time to host a Lakers viewing party …
While details for the Lakers parade are still being hammered out, the Gay Pride parade went off without a hitch this weekend, with Cali mayors Gavin Newsom and Antonio Villaraigosa teaming up to show their support for the community …
And on Saturday, the community gave back to “Milk” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who was honored for his work at the Life Out Loud 4 event. The night before, “Milk” actor Emile Hirsch watched pal Andrew Keegan make his theater debut in “He Asked for It," which explores the lives of several HIV-positive men in LA …
Finally, Florence Henderson reunited with her TV offspring, Barry Williams and Susan Olsen, at the LGBT: Youth in Television – Tweens Teens & More panel on Thursday, while Bill Cosby reunited with his TV son, Malcolm Jamal Warner on decidedly more hetero-centric turf: the Playboy Jazz Festival, presided over by the one and only Hef and his gaggle of surgically enhanced bunnies.
