Natalie Portman goes on a mysterious voyage to find her missing husband in the first teaser trailer for Alex Garland’s “Annihilation.”
When a biologist’s (Portman) husband disappears, she goes on an expedition into an environmental disaster zone, but does not anticipate what she finds there. The team is comprised of the biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist and a surveyor.
Portman and Oscar Isaac star alongside Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Isaac previously worked with Garland on “Ex Machina.”
The trailer is beautiful and entranced with sorts of cosmic, carbon shapes. It begs the question: What the heck happened to the other expeditions on which Isaac’s character disappeared?
First footage was shown at CinemaCon in March, where stunned audiences were at the edge of their seats as they watched Portman come to terms with her situation during the Paramount presentation in Las Vegas.
“Annihilation” will hit theaters on February 23, 2018.
