Anthony Weiner TV Ad Warns ‘Powerful Voices’ Trying to Hurt Campaign

Don't blame the sexting, he says

Anthony Weiner assures voters in his first television ad that throughout his quixotic campaign for New York City mayor, he has remained "focused like a laser beam" on the issues that matter to the middle class.

Left unmentioned is the latest round of below-the-belt selfies that have hobbled the former congressman's chances of capturing City Hall, while making him a national joke.

Instead, the candidate touts his "125" new ideas and two books of proposals on health care education. Weiner's sexting scandals are only alluded to.

"Powerful voices have made it clear from the very beginning they didn't want me to win," Weiner says in the ad. "But this isn't about what they want. They've gotten their way for far too long."

In this case the "powerful voices" and those of the average New Yokers may be aligned. Only 10 percent of Democratic voters support his bid for the mayor's office, according to a new New York Times/Siena College poll. That puts him behind Christine Quinn, Bill Thompson and Bill de Blasio and is his worst standing since entering the race.

Before a fresh batch of explicit photos of Weiner leaked, he was leading in some polls.
