Anti-Abortion Activist Tells Shocked Joy Reid Birth Control Should Be Illegal (Video)

MSNBC segment takes wild turn as pro-life advocate claims contraception pills and IUDs should be outlawed

MSNBC host Joy Reid was visibly shocked when an anti-abortion panelist admitted that her ultimate goal was to outlaw birth control because “they kill children.”

During a contentious Planned Parenthood segment on Saturday, Reid was somewhat perplexed after one of her guests, Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life, argued that contraception pills and IUDs should be illegal.

“I believe certain forms can be legal, yes,” Hawkins said. “I don’t believe abortion causing contraception should be legal.”

An incredulous Reid then asked: “What kind of contraception are you talking about?”

Hawkins replied: “Hormonal contraception.”

“You think IUDs should be illegal?” Reid shot back.

“I don’t think they should be legal, “Hawkins replied. “They put women at risk and they kill children.”

But Reid, who seemed like she was hit by a train, then asked: “What about the birth control pill?”

“I do not think it should be legal; I think that shouldn’t be legal,” Hawkins replied.

“I just want clarify,” Reid said. “You think that the pill and the IUD should be illegal, right?”

“In my ideal world, yes,” Hawkins replied. “But I don’t think that’s something we’re working towards in the pro-life movement. In the pro-life movement, we’re working towards abolishing abortion. That’s why we want Planned Parenthood’s money to go to health centers which don’t do contraception.”

“We’ve gotten some real clarity,” Reid said. “I think the American people have gotten quite a bit of clarity on what your movement wants to do.”
