Apple Original Films has acquired the rights to the thriller “The Gorge,” which will star Miles Teller and is from director Scott Derrickson (“The Black Phone”). The streamer has now attached Anya Taylor-Joy to join the cast alongside Teller.

“The Gorge” comes from Skydance Media and is based on a spec script by Zach Dean (Skydance’s “The Tomorrow War”). Specific plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is described as a high-action, genre-bending love story.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger will produce for Skydance, alongside Crooked Highway’s Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill and Sherryl Clark. Dean, Adam Kolbrenner and Greg Goodman will also produce.

“The Gorge” is part of a first-look partnership between Apple and Skydance Media, and the two have already partnered on “The Greatest Beer Run Ever” from director Peter Farrelly and star Zac Efron, and the animated film “Luck.” There’s also several other projects in the works, including a high-concept romantic action adventure film called “Ghosted” starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas and “The Family Plan,” a recently announced action-comedy starring Mark Wahlberg.

Taylor-Joy can currently be seen in David O’Russel’s “Amsterdam” and will next be seen starring opposite Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult in “The Menu,” which premiered at TIFF. She is currently filming the title role in George Miller’s “Furiosa,” the prequel film to “Mad Max: Fury Road,” opposite Chris Hemsworth.

Taylor-Joy is represented by CAA, Kat Gosling at The Way, and Felker, Toczek, Suddleson, Abramson, McGinnis Ryan.

Deadline first reported the news.
