Arclight Films has bought the international rights to “Predestination,” a sci-fi action thriller starring Ethan Hawke.
The film, written and directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, follows a covert government time traveling agency used to prevent future violent crimes. Hawke will play an agent who seeks out his younger self to track down the one criminal that has eluded him.
Hawke and the Australian Spierig brothers last worked together on “Daybreakers,” a 2010 project that took in more than $50 million at the global box office.
“There is such fantastic talent coming out of Australia right now and we are thrilled to be working with Michael and Peter who are really at the forefront of this,” Clay Epstein, VP of Sales & Acquisition for Arclight Films, said in a statement. “With the Spierig brothers at the helm, Ethan Hawke delving into one of his best played genres, ‘Predestination’ is sure to be ideal for the marketplace.”
Wolfhound Pictures’ Patrick McDonald and Blacklab Entertainment’s Tim McGahan are producing. The film will start production next year in Australia.
