Ariana Grande isn’t laughing with fiance Pete Davidson about at least one off-color quip the “SNL” player made months ago.

Before the fast-moving couple met, the stand-up comic joked that there is a silver lining for Grande having been the singer whose concert was bombed in Manchester. Davidson said it must have made Grande realize how famous she’s become because, “Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert.”

A Grande fan brought that up on Twitter this week, wondering how she could be with Davidson after the remark: “I respect Ariana and I want her to be happy and everything, but she was just broken after the Manchester bombing, so I don’t know why she is still with Pete, like yeah he made that joke a while ago, but like it’s not funny, it’s just rude,” the person wrote. “This is my opinion.”

Here is Grande’s response: “this has been v tough & conflicting on my heart. he uses comedy to help ppl feel better ab how f-ed up things in this world are. we all deal w trauma differently. I of course didn’t find it funny. it was months ago & his intention wasn’t/ is never malicious but it was unfortunate”

Their social media exchange is below.

Twenty-three people died as a result of the May 22, 2017 suicide bombing and many more were wounded.

Davidson has dealt with his own personal tragedy due to terrorism. The comedian’s father, a firefighter, died in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
