Art Directors Honor ‘Inception,’ ‘Black Swan,’ ‘King’s Speech’

“Mad Men,” “Modern Family” honored for televison

Polishing off a trifecta of Saturday night awards shows, the Art Directors Guild gave its film awards to "Inception," "Black Swan" and "The King's Speech" in a ceremony at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

By dividing its film awards into three separate categories, the ADG spreads the wealth around. "The King's Speech" was honored in the Period Film category, "Inception" in Fantasy Film, and "Black Swan" in Contemporary Film.

"The King's Speech" and "Inception" are also Oscar nominees for art direction, along with "Alice in Wonderland," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1" and "True Grit."

In television awards, the ADG honored the same two series that had won WGA Awards earlier in the evening: "Mad Men" and "Modern Family." The Betty White episode of "Saturday Night Live," the TV movie "Secrets in the Wall" and the 82nd Academy Awards also won.

Production designer Patricia Norris was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Syd Dutton and Bill Taylor were honored for Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery.

Alexander Golitzen, Albert Herschong and Eugene Lourie were inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame.

The ceremony was hosted by Paula Poundstone.
