‘August: Osage County’ Trailer: Meryl Streep and Family Dysfunction – Are You Watching, Oscar?

Julia Roberts and Benedict Cumberbatch co-star in the film adaptationof the Pulitzer Prize-winning play

A summer packed with popcorn flicks stands between now and Oscar season, but the Weinstein Company unveiled a look at one of its awards season thoroughbreds with the new trailer for "August: Osage County."

The film doesn't hit theaters until Nov. 8, but the sneak peek abounds with the kind of meaty emoting and makeup-eschewing performances that send Academy members into raptures.

It doesn't hurt "August: Osage County" boasts a cast that includes Meryl Streep playing a pill-popping mother and Julia Roberts as her bitter daughter. The rest of the company isn't too shabby, either — featuring the likes of Chris Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ewan McGregor, Sam Shepard, Abigail Breslin and Juliette Lewis.

For an additional whiff of prestige, the Tracy Letts play that inspired the film snagged just about every major theatrical prize including the Pulitzer when it debuted on Broadway in 2007.

Here's a look at the dysfunctional Oklahoma family at the center of it all.
