Austin Aries has been released by the WWE.

“WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Austin Aries,” the pro wrestling promotion said in a statement on Friday. “WWE wishes Aries the best in all of his future endeavors.”

Aries had only joined WWE’s main roster as an in-ring performer this March. He was immediately thrust into the Cruiserweight division’s title picture, but failed to win the belt. Before entering the actual competition, Aries contributed on commentary. Aries spent most of 2016 in WWE’s minor league system, NXT.

Prior to his time in Vince McMahon’s employ, Aries made his mark in TNA and Ring of Honor.

In addition to his in-ring and on-the-mic talents, Aries is also an author. Aries’ “Food Fight,” a memoir about wrestling and his adoption of a vegan lifestyle, is for sale now.
