“FBI: Most Wanted” star Julian McMahon is not only a native Australian, he’s (pretty literally) the son of Aussie royalty. That adds some extra weight when talking about the terrible wildfires currently ravaging his homeland.

“The fires are devastating, it’s horrific,” McMahon said Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour. “In regards to the acreage that has burned and the damage it is doing to the environment.”

“I have a lot of friends and family there, so I’m constantly checking in with people,” the CBS actor continued. “It’s also small things that we’re maybe not aware of. I’ve had friends going to the hospital for bronchial issues and problems with their eyes. I’ve got friends who haven’t seen the sun for two or three weeks.”

McMahon’s father, Sir William McMahon was the 20th prime minister of Australia, serving that office from 1971-1972 as leader of the Liberal party. Sir William, who died in 1988, was a government minister for more than 21 years — that’s the longest continuous ministerial service in Australian history.

Julian McMahon, who plays Jess LaCroix on the “FBI” spinoff, and CBS are working together to do their part in helping Australia. Readers can go to CBSCares.TV to learn more about the efforts.

“FBI: Most Wanted” debuted on Tuesday to 7.1 million total viewers, making it the most-watched new series premiere of the 2019-20 season so far. That tally rose to 9.7 million viewers with three days of (mostly) DVR viewing.
