First-time producer Brent Miller tells TheWrap he's getting support from the series' featured artists, but not from his network
AXS TV’s new series "On Tour: Tait Stages" premieres Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET. Only nobody knows about it, the series creator Brent Miller told TheWrap.
That may be as much heat as the show will generate on Cuban's former HDNet network that has struggled to make its mark thus far. Miller says that the AXS TV network is burying the premiere because it's disappointed that the show is not more like E!'s "Keeping up with the Kardashians.”
"I think we're providing what the fans are interested in, however, the success [of the show] depends on their dedication and the network's support, really. At this point, today, I feel that we are being set up to fail," Miller told TheWrap.
The show is about documenting the drama behind building elaborate stages for arena acts like Madonna and Bon Jovi. But perhaps the drama is hard to come by for a veteran stage-building company based in Amish country Pennsylvania.
Miller said the AEG/CAA/Ryan Seacrest Media/Mark Cuban-owned network has buried the show. There has not even been one press release, and only Monday afternoon did AXS TV post a trailer on its website for the following day's series premiere.
The docuseries has episodes featuring artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire and Metallica in the can. Each episode features an interview with the artists about the crew who put together their elaborate set. The artists also agreed to share their episodes with fans over social media.
Miller ended up cutting a 2 minute 49 second trailer for the debut – which features Madonna's MDNA Tour in Washington, D.C. – at his own expense and posting it to Vimeo.
