“L.A’s Finest” is coming back for Season 2 on Spectrum Originals.
Stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba made the announcement Friday during the Monte Carlo Television Festival.
A spinoff of the “Bad Boys” film series, “L.A.’s Finest” featured Union reprising her role as Syd Burnett from 2003’s “Bad Boys II.” Now an LAPD detective, Syd is paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Alba), a working mom with an equally complex past. Taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles while skirting the rules, and speed limits, Syd and Nancy become a force to be reckoned with – on the streets, and in each other’s lives.
Zach Gilford, Duane Martin, Ryan McPartlin, Sophie Reynolds and Ernie Hudson also star. The first season premiered on May 13; all 13 episodes will be available for Spectrum’s subscribers on June 17.
Alba and Union are executive producers on the series alongside Brandon Margolis, Brandon Sonnier, Pam Veasey, Doug Belgrad, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Gaspin, Jeff Morrone and pilot director Anton Cropper.
“We’re thrilled ‘L.A.’s Finest’ has resonated with our subscribers in such a major way. When I first saw the pilot – a show about two strong women learning to trust and support each other and still getting into plenty of trouble – I knew I’d follow them anywhere,” said Katherine Pope, head of Spectrum Originals. “Kudos to Gabrielle and Jessica, as stars and executive producers, along with creators Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis and everyone else involved, for helping us launch our first original series and making the decision to greenlight a second season incredibly easy.”
The Sony Pictures Television series, first developed as an NBC pilot, was the first foray into the scripted originals space for Charter. It is set to be followed by the U.K. street racing drama “Curfew” from Sky and the Lionsgate crime anthology series “Manhunt,” picked up from Discovery.
