Bad Robot Names Brian Weinstein President and COO

Weinstein joins J.J. Abrams’ production company from CAA

Bad Robot has named Brian Weinstein as its new president and chief operating officer, according to a statement released by the studio Tuesday.

Working with CEOs J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath, Weinstein will oversee the day-to-day operations of the film and television production company and lead the company’s growth strategy in both existing and potential new ventures.

“I’m incredibly excited to help further J.J. and Katie’s vision for Bad Robot and also help shape what the company can become in the years to follow,” Weinstein said in a statement. “J.J. and Katie have already built an extremely dynamic company with amazing executives and I look forward to joining that team and helping Bad Robot develop and execute its next chapter.”

Weinstein joins Bad Robot from CAA, where he most recently served as Head of Global Client Strategy. Weinstein worked on behalf of Bad Robot during his time at the agency.

“During his 12-year tenure with the agency, Brian has been an outstanding colleague and respected executive working across many areas of our business,” said CAA President Richard Lovett.  “We are excited that he has partnered with J.J. and Katie, who exemplify the very best in our industry. Through their combined teamwork, Bad Robot will continue to be a trailblazing company with an even brighter future.”

Last year, Bad Robot produced two films with Paramount Pictures, “10 Cloverfield Lane” and “Star Trek: Beyond,” and also produced the hit HBO sci-fi series “Westworld.” The studio’s next project, the sci-fi horror film “God Particle,” will be released October 27.
