Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Biopic Lands Prime Awards-Bait Release in Fall 2021

Warner Bros. also moves “Dune” back a month to December 2020

Warner Bros.’ untitled Elvis Presley film, which will star Austin Butler as the iconic singer, has scored a prime awards-bait release date of October 1, 2021.

The “Dune” reboot will also move from November 20, 2020 to December 18, 2020. Warner Bros. also slated an untitled WB Event Film for November 20, 2020 — “Dune’s” previous slot.

In Luhrmann’s movie, he will explore the life and music of Elvis through his complicated relationship with his manager Col. Tom Parker, who will be played by Tom Hanks.

Luhrmann wrote the script with Craig Pearce with whom he also wrote “The Great Gatsby” and “Moulin Rouge!” The script will not be based on any pre-existing material. Luhrmann is producing along with his wife Catherine Martin. They have both have been developing the project since the director wrapped up his last film, 2013’s “The Great Gatsby.” Gail Berman is producing for Tecumseh Productions.

As of right now, Paramount has an untitled Hasbro Event Film slated for October 1, 2021.

“Dune” is being directed by Denis Villeneuve and will star Timothee Chalamet, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Zendaya.
