Bernie Sanders Pulls Ahead of Hillary Clinton in Iowa, Democrats Trust Him More

Vermont Senator draws 41 percent vs. former Secretary of State’s 40 percent

Democratic voters seem to “feeling the Bern” more and more as a new poll shows Bernie Sanders has pulled ahead of Hillary Clinton for the first time in Iowa.

In the latest Quinnipiac University poll, the Vermont Senator drew 41 percent compared to Clinton’s 40 percent — a statistical tie. Vice President Joe Biden garnered 12 percent without even formally announcing he’s running.

Sanders’ pulling ahead in Iowa comes a week after he did the same thing in New Hampshire, leaving an image of the former Secretary of State hanging on the ropes.

The poll numbers for Sanders mark a stunning surge: in a July Quinnipiac Iowa poll, he trailed Clinton 52-33 percent.

In the new poll, Sanders also elicits more trust among voters, drawing 86 percent in the honest and trustworthy rating  vs. Clinton’s 64 percent. Vice President Biden topped the category, drawing 91 percent.

The change in favor of Sanders sets up a more interesting first Democratic debate on Oct. 13th. Assuming there are no new developments in the email controversy that has plagued her, Clinton will have to come out tactfully— but aggressively — against the insurgent Sanders.
