Bernie Sanders Slams Trump’s Congressional Address: ‘Keep Your Promises!’ (Video)

“I did not hear President Trump say one word, not one word, about social security or Medicare,” Sanders says

Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders posted a video response to Donald Trump Congressional address on Tuesday night, saying that what POTUS didn’t say is as important as what he did say. Sanders urged Trump to keep campaign promises.

“At a time when over half of older Americans have no retirement savings, I did not hear President Trump say one word, not one word, about social security or Medicare,” Sanders said. “During the campaign, as we all remember, President Trump promised over and over and over again that he would not cut social security, Medicare or Medicate.”

Sanders said it was a “cornerstone of his campaign,” but failed to mention it during his first major speech to a joint session of Congress.

“Even worse, President Trump has to propose a massive cut to medicate,” Sanders said, explaining that it would impact our senior citizens and children. “I urge President Trump, keep your promises.”

Sanders went on to ask Trump to “tweet to the American people” that he would not cut social security, Medicare or Medicate. The Senator from Vermont went on to rip Trump’s speech for not touching on voter suppression, the “broken” criminal justice system, climate change or income inequality.

He also criticized Trump’s failure to drain the swamp and fact checked many of the comments made during Tuesday’s speech.

“It sounds good on the surface, but it doesn’t sound good if you dig a little bit deeper,” Sanders said.
