“The Big Bang Theory” might be all about the laughs, but there’s nothing funny about this.
Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons and the rest of the cast for the CBS sitcom took a moment on Thursday to show support for “Empire” star Jussie Smollett, who was reportedly attacked earlier this week.
In a photo posted to Cuoco and Galecki’s Instagram accounts, the cast and crew showed solidarity with the actor, gathering around the set with a large sign reading, “We Support Jussie.”
“Those of us @bigbangtheory_cbs #standwithjussie @kaleycuoco @therealjimparsons #simonhelberg @kunalkarmanayyar @missmayim @themelissarauch @kevsussman @itswilwheaton @mildmanneredsteveholland @stevemolaro @billprady along with the writers and many others here,” Galecki wrote in a message accompanying the photo. “Much [love] @jussiesmollett.”
Cuoco, meanwhile, wrote, “On behalf of everyone here @bigbangtheory_cbs we #standwithjussie #jussiesmollett #wegotyourback.”
Earlier this week, news broke that Smollett was assaulted in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago.
Police said Smollett, 36, was walking when two offenders started yelling the racist and homophobic slurs. The offenders then “began to batter the victim with their hands about the face and poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim,” and one put a rope around his neck, according to police.
Late Tuesday, Chicago police officer Michelle Tannehill told TheWrap that Smollett did not initially mention the attackers shouting about MAGA — an abbreviation of President Trump’s “Make American Great Again” slogan — but did bring up “MAGA” in a follow-up interview.
“When detectives followed up later in the day, he recalled the attackers making those remarks,” Tannehill said. She said she could not be more specific.
