‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Trailer: Meryl Streep Wants the Truth (Video)

Series returns to HBO on June 9

HBO released the first trailer for a second season of its hit series “Big Little Lies” on Sunday… and the Monterey Five are struggling with the haunting lie that’s followed them from Season 1.

The moms of Monterey returns to HBO on June 9, and Meryl Streep is coming to Monterey to seek out the truth of what happened to her son, formerly played by Alexander Skarsgård.

“It’s gonna get us, it’s gonna get us all,” Zoë Kravitz’s Bonnie says early on in the trailer.

“What are we talking about?” asks Reese Witherspoon’s character Madeline. “The lie,” Kravitz responds.

“Big Little Lies” was intended as a miniseries and not return for a second season, but it proved to be such a big  hit that HBO just couldn’t let it go.

The first season covered the entirety of Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, so little is known about the direction Season 2 will take or how the show will build upon the already-told story.

As executive producers in addition to their on-screen roles, Nicole Kidman and Witherspoon were the first announced to return for Season 2, along with Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Kravitz, Adam Scott, James Tupper, Jeffrey Nordling, Iain Armitage, Kathryn Newton, Robin Weigert, Sarah Sokolovic and Merrin Dungey.

Even Skarsgård  (who played Streep’s son and Kidman’s now-deceased husband, Perry) is expected to make an appearance, though he’s not shown in the trailer.
