Bill Hader has been taking quiet jabs at Keith Morrison for years with his “Saturday Night Live” impersonation of the “Dateline NBC” correspondent. And now the apprentice has finally had the pleasure of meeting “the master,” thanks to an orchestrated bit on Sunday’s “Today” show.
In a sneak peek from Hader’s interview with Willie Guest, the two are sitting in a sound-editing bay watching Morrison do his voiceover work for “Dateline.” When the editor asks Hader what he thinks of his idol’s monologuing, the comedian says, “That’s pretty rad,” and has no notes to give him.
“I can’t give him pointers,” the “SNL” alum says. “He’s the perfect, most perfect. He’s the master. I don’t know how you get better than…”
Suddenly, Morrison walks into the edit bay, revealing he’d flown in from L.A. to make a surprise in-person appearance.
“KEITH MORRISON! I KNEW HE WAS GONNA BE HERE! I KNEW HE WAS GONNA BE HERE!” Hader shouts, getting as excited about meeting his “Dateline” hero as his “SNL” impersonation of him does about investigating a grisly murder on the newsmagazine.
