Samara Weaving (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) and Brigette Lundy-Paine (“Atypical”) have joined the cast of “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” and are set to play the daughters of the time-traveling duo.

Weaving will play Alex Winters’ daughter Thea Preston, while Lundy-Paine is playing Keanu Reeves’ daughter Billie Logan. Dean Parisot is directing the project, based on a screenplay by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who are returning to the franchise.

“Bill & Ted Face The Music” follows the events of 1989’s “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and 1991’s “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,” with the now middle-aged best friends William “Bill” S. Preston, Esq. (Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Reeves) setting out on a new adventure to fulfill their rock and roll (Wyld Stallions) destiny to bring harmony to the universe through the power of their music. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends and a few music legends.

“When we saw Samara and Brigette together, it was like deja vu,” producer Scott Kroopf said. “It was exactly the way we felt when we first saw Keanu and Alex.  We are so thrilled to have this funny and unique pair join the ‘Bill and Ted’ team!”

Kroopf is producing alongside Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce on behalf of Hammerstone Studios. Steven Soderbergh will be executive producing along with R. Scott Reid, John Ryan Jr., Scott Fischer and John Santilli. Production legal will be handled by Rosen Stapleton Law Group.

Weaving was most recently seen in Amazon’s “Picnic at Hanging Rock” as well as Fox Searchlight’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” Her other credits include “The Babysitter” and she will next be seen in “Read or Not” and “Guns Akimbo.” She is represented by WME and Untitled Entertainment.

Lundy-Paine currently stars in the Netflix series “Atypical” opposite Keir Gilchrist. She recently wrapped production on “Fair and Balanced,” previously known as the “Untitled Roger Ailes Project,” and also recently appeared in “The Glass Castle” alongside Woody Harrelson and Naomi Watts. She is represented by Gersh.

The previous “Bill & Ted” films were box office successes, becoming cultural touch points for a generation and garnering a rabid cult following in the process. Orion Pictures will release “Bill & Ted Face the Music” on August 21, 2020.
