Billy Bob Thornton’s Daughter Sentenced to 20 Years for Aggravated Manslaughter

The Oscar winner’s estranged daughter initially was charged with murder in the death of her year-old goddaughter

Billy Bob Thornton's daughter will spend the next 20 years in a Florida prison for her role in the death of her 1-year-old goddaughter, a judge ruled Thursday.

Amanda Brumfield, the actor's estranged daughter, received the sentence in Circuit Court in Orange County, Fla.

Brumfield was convicted of aggravated manslaughter in May.

Brumfield was found not guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of Olivia Madison Garcia. The little girl died while staying at Brumfield's home in October 2008.

Brumfield's lawyers said that the child died after falling a short distance while trying to climb out of a playpen. Prosecutors balked at the story, saying that a short fall could not have caused the 3 1/2-inch fracture on the back of Olivia's skull, and the bleeding and swelling in her brain.

Brumfield has two children and a stepchild.

Thornton has three other children.
