Billy Dee Williams Reprises Lando Calrissian Role for ‘Star Wars: Rebels’

The veteran actor played the character in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’

Things are about to get a lot smoother in a galaxy far, far away.

Today, screenshots and video from the Disney XD animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” surfaced featuring Lando Calrissian, famously played in two of the original “Star Wars” films by Billy Dee Williams.

Lando was a friend and ally of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), but betrayed him to Darth Vader, ultimately getting Han frozen in carbonite.  Lando later redeemed himself and was instrumental in the destruction of the second Death Star in “Return of the Jedi.”

While fans had hoped that Williams would reprise his iconic role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” he will instead provide the character’s voice in “Rebels.” The series focuses on the early years of the Rebel Alliance’s attempts to overthrow the Empire. Several stars of the earlier film series have made guest voice appearances, including James Earl Jones as Darth Vader and Frank Oz as Yoda.

Perhaps we will finally get to see Lando’s little maneuver at the Battle of Taanab. Williams will appear in the episode “Idiot’s Array,” which premieres January 19 at 9 p.m. ET on Disney XD.
