Bing Surpasses Yahoo as No. 2 Search Provider

Microsoft search engine cornered 13.9% of the U.S. market in August compared to 13.1% for Yahoo

Call Yahoo the CNN of Internet search.

The company that kick-started the web-search industry over a decade ago continues to lose market share, and now — for the first time — has fallen behind Microsoft's Bing, ranking as the No. 3 search provider during the month of August, according to Nielsen Company data.

According to Nielsen, Bing owned 13.9 percent of the U.S. search market in August, compared to 13.1 percent for Yahoo.

Google, of course, dominates search, controlling 65 percent of the market for that period.
