Olivia Rodrigo and Madison Hu play best friends on Disney Channel’s newest sitcom, “Bizardvaark,” and in the opening credits of the show, they are banding together to encourage others to get creative.
In this exclusive video (above), Rodrigo and Hu’s characters, Paige and Frankie, give up on swinging life away and decide to become modern content creators, with the help of their friends.
“I love that ‘Bizaardvark’ is all about two young girls who are creative, smart, and funny,” said the sequence’s director Trish Sie. “More than ever, in this day and age, girls need to see other girls using their brains, their imaginations, working together to make stuff happen — rather than worrying incessantly about their hair, or their clothes, or which boys like them. As a girl who likes to express herself through funny internet videos, I very much relate to these characters. I hope they empower a lot of young women to get weird, get busy, and get inspired.”
The series follows Paige (Rodrigo) and Frankie (Hu), who write funny songs and create music-comedy videos for their online channel, Bizaardvark. Now with 10,000 subscribers, they are invited to produce their videos at the influential Vuuugle Studios.
In this cool environment — and with the help of longtime friend and 12-year- old agent Bernie, plus fellow Vuuugle stars Dirk (of “Dare Me Bro!”) and Amelia (of “Perfect Perfection with Amelia”) — the best friends embark on comedic adventures in their quest to rule the blogosphere.
“We so often imagine kids today as being zoned out like zombies in front of their screens, eyes glazed over, practically growing roots into their chair as they vegetate. I really wanted to inject energy and physicality into the concept of the Internet, with all of its magical powers,” added Sie.
“Bizaardvark” premieres Friday, June 24, on Disney Channel, following the premiere of its 100th original movie, “Adventures in Babysitting.”
