“Blade Runner 2049” and “War for the Planet of the Apes” led all films in nominations for the Visual Effects Society’s 16th Annual VES Awards, with “Game of Thrones” topping all TV programs and landing the most nominations overall.

“Blade Runner” and “Planet of the Apes” each scored seven nominations, including Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature, the category that most closely corresponds to the Oscars Best Visual Effects category. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” “Kong: Skull Island” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” were also nominated in that category.

“Game of Thrones” received 11 nominations. “Despicable Me 3” led all animated films in noms with five.

Four of the films that are on the Oscars 10-film shortlist in the VFX category – “Alien: Covenant,” “Okja,” “The Shape of Water” and “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” – did not receive VES nominations.

The VES Awards will take place on February 13 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will be hosted by Patton Oswalt.
