The trailer for Brad Pitt astronaut thriller “Ad Astra” touched down on Wednesday, and the September Walt Disney Studios release looks like it’ll a bumpy ride — but in a good way.
“Ad Astra” follows astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt),who travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet, per Disney’s logline. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.
And yes, there may be aliens. Or at least, that was part of Pitt’s dad’s search — and probably his.
Liv Tyler co-stars in the film as Pitt’s wife — she’s always with these astronauts. Or in the case of her role as Ben Affleck’s love interest in “Armageddon,” an oil rig worker turned astronaut. Either way, it’s too much stress for one person.
Directed by James Gray, “Ad Astra” also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga and Donald Sutherland. The busy Gray, who executive produces alongside Pitt, also penned the screenplay with Ethan Gross.
Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, Arnon Milchan are also executive producers.
“Ad Astra” blasts off into theaters on Sep. 20.
