Bravo Orders Limited Series Adaptation of UK TV Commentary Show ‘Gogglebox’

“The People’s Couch” will premiere in October with just three episodes

Channel 4

Bravo’s going meta with its new TV show about TV shows starring regular people watching TV shows.

The cable channel has ordered “The People’s Couch,” a half-hour limited series airing Sunday, Oct. 6, Oct. 13 and Oct. 20 at 11:30/10:30c.

“‘The People’s Couch’ is a funny, unfiltered comment on America’s current TV viewing habits,” said Bravo’s vice president of development, Lara Spotts in a statement. “Continuing Bravo’s tradition of serving up pop culture in fresh, new ways, this series taps into everyone’s desire to know what others think about the shows they are watching.”

The three-episode series features “real people” watching and weighing in on today’s most popular shows and news stories from the past week.

Based on the successful UK series, Channel 4’s “Gogglebox,” each episode will star the same groups of people ranging from sorority girls to grandparents with their grandkids — all supplying their unique take on popular TV and news.

It is produced by Studio Lambert and All3Media with executive producers Stephen Lambert, Eli Holzman, Tania Alexander and Aliyah Silverstein.

This new series sounds like Bravo is capitalizing on the success of shows with real time commentary formats like “Watch What Happens Live,” “Property Envy” and “Fashion Queens.”
