“The Mummy” star Brendan Fraser has been cast in FX’s upcoming anthology series “Trust,” about the kidnapping of J. Paul Getty III.

Fraser will be playing James Fletcher Chace, the Gettys’ private investigator. He’s described as an “eccentric” but also a “master fixer.”

Fraser will be starring alongside Donald Sutherland, who will play J. Paul Getty; Hillary Swank as Gail Getty; and Harris Dickinson as J. Paul Getty III.

“Trust” is FX’s latest anthology series, which seeks to unlock the mysteries of every family, regardless of wealth or stature. The first 10-episode installment will be about the Gettys in 1973, following the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III.

The case is famous for its dysfunction. Most of the family, and the police, thought the ransom note — which asked for $17 million — was a joke. Even the Italian police declined to investigate.

The show will also highlight the problems within the family. The eldest Getty is isolated in a Tudor mansion surrounded by mistresses and a pet lion. J. Paul Getty II is addicted to heroin and Gail is the only one who seems to want to keep the family together.

Boyle, Simon Beaufoy, and Christian Colson are executive producing, with Beaufoy also writing. It will be produced by FX Productions, Cloud Eight Films, Decibel Films and Snicket Films Limited.

The three previously worked together on Oscar-nominated films “Slumdog Millionaire,” and “127 Hours,” with Boyle directing, Beaufoy writing the screenplay, and Colson producing.

Fraser is most known for his role as Rick O’Connell in “The Mummy” trilogy. He was recently seen in Season 3 of Showtime’s “The Affair” and will be starring in the Audience Network drama “Condor,” which is set to premiere in 2018.
